What to do in September

Since we didn’t get summer weather for any real stretch of time, I think summer needs to go for at least another month. I’m not ready for fall yet. My dog and I still have a lot of hikes, trips to the lake and patios to visit. This month is also packed full of fun dog friendly events to get out and pretend it’s summer for another month.

Here are some of the things going on this month for you and your dog:

Sept. 2
Lakewood Dog Swimlakewood

Foster Pool at Lakewood Park opens up to dogs for this end of summer celebration. This event benefits the Lakewood Dog Park and admission fees are $5 for one dog $5, $8 for two dogs and $10 for three dogs.

Sept. 6
Cleveland Pet Expo

Dogs are welcome at the Cleveland Pet Expo (with proof of current age-appropriate immunizations and on a non-retractable lead) at the Cleveland Convention Center.  There will be an appearance by Shorty Rossi (and his pit bull, Hercules), star of ‘Pit Boss’ on Animal Planet, hundreds of pet friendly exhibitors and rescue groups. Admission is free.

Sept. 14
Mutt Strut and Mingle & Paw-ject Runway Dog Calendar Contest

This adoption event will also feature a dog calendar contest, games and a pack walk. The top 12 dogs for the contest will be featured in the 2015 Dick Goddard’s Best Friend’s Medical Relief Fund Calendar. This family and pet friendly event is packed with other activities like face painting, dog trainers, jewelry makers, food trucks, live music and drink specials. (Come see me at the Central Ohio Pomeranian Rescue tent!).

Sept. 21

This annual 1-mile dog walk through the Holden Arboretum raises funds for the Geauga Animal Shelter. Walker can sign up and raise funds for the shelter. Hunter and I did this last year and it was a lot of fun. Walking the beautiful grounds of the Arboretum always makes for a fun dog walk. There will also be games, pet friendly vendors and live music.

Sept. 27
Miles for Mutts 5K

Anytime Fitness in Concord will be hosting this 5K to benefit the Lake Humane Society. The course will start and end at Anytime Fitness. The fee to participate is $20 for non-Anytime Fitness members and $15 for members.  To register, sign up here: https://register.chronotrack.com/reg/form?eventID=7656
